GENERAL CHAT USAGE

Postby volau » Sat Jun 07, 2008 11:03 pm

The logon for chat is the same USER ID and PASSWORD as the user has for the commentary forum message board; when the user is logged into the commentary forum message board, they are AUTOMATICALLY logged into chat, no re-log on for chat is required, simply click on the "Registered User Chat Window" link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. The user must be a validly registered user of the community forum message board, AND LOGGED IN, to use chat; chat is not available for guests, and guests will not see the chat activation link.

The chat window will open in a new window, which can be manipulated via normal windows manipulation techniques for window size and location on the screen.

The user must remain logged in to the community forum message board for the duration of chat.

Since chat is in its own window, when the user wishes to log out of chat, simply close the chat window. Unless the user has executed save operations of the room's chat log in the chat window for preservation on the user's local system, all chat content, being transient, will be lost to the user when logging out of chat by closing the chat window.

After logging out of chat by closing the chat window, the user is STILL logged into the community forum message board for usage of and posting thereon.

Should the user desire to re-enter chat, simply activate it by clicking on the "Registered User Chat Window" link again.

Remember that discussion(s) and points made in registered user chat are transient, and not permanent postings as in the commentary forum message board; if the user desires to leave permanent material for others to see / respond to, said material must be also posted in the appropriate community message board forum / topic / reply.

Although transient, chat room dialog(s) can be saved by the user by utilizing the appropriate options while in the chat window (ie, the SAVE option, which will open up a browser screen containing the room's chat log which can then be saved to the user's local system using standard browser SAVE / SAVE AS options.

There are four permanent public rooms, which never expire:

George Washington's Welcome Parlor - this is the default room where the user enters the chat client from the commentary forum message board; it is the initial central meeting place for chatters and small talk.

Thomas Jefferson's Tech Talk for Chat - this is intended to be a room where users may meet and discuss (self help) usage of the chat module, when a more permanent interaction is not necessary or desired by using the HELP !!! (USER SELF HELP FOR CHAT) sub-forum of the COMMENTARY FORUM BOARD USAGE ===>READ ME FIRST<=== !!! forum of the commentary forum message board.

Ben Franklin's Tech Talk for Forums - this is intended to be a room where users may meet and discuss (self help) usage of the commentary forum message board, when a more permanent interaction is not necessary or desired by using the HELP !!! (USER SELF HELP FOR FORUMS) sub-forum of the COMMENTARY FORUM BOARD USAGE ===>READ ME FIRST<=== !!! forum of the commentary forum message board.

Ride w/ Paul Revere, Spur the Horse - This is a general room for serious transient commentary, discussion, and observations related to the issues and theme of this web site and user commentary forum interaction associated therewith.

Any user may open up temporary room(s), (room name user defined), for specific topics and/or groups of other users; these rooms may be opened up as public or private rooms, with password required or not required for room entry. These temporary rooms will remain open as long as they are active (users in the room), but will quickly expire when the temporary room becomes vacant.

The user has alot of options to customise the chat GUI (Graphical User Interface) for personalization preferences; experiment with GUI preferred modifications (changing skins, colors, etc.) until you find a combination of GUI choices that is appealing to you as most comfortable and desireable for individual personal use.

Due to the large size of avatars allowed on the commentary forum message board per user, the commentary forum message board avatars are NOT carried over into the chat module / client.

NOTICE:

This dynamic real time chat application is powered by FlashChat v4.7.12, which may be incompatible with the most recent version of Adobe Flash, if you experience problems with the chat module not working, the most probable cause is due to this in-compatibility. Since forum board administration has no control over any given user's Adobe Flash local system installation, this FlashChat v4.7.12 is used as it works for a stable and "around long enough" version of Adobe Flash player to accomodate MOST users - if it does not work for you (and you are on the most current version of Adobe Flash), try using previous versions of Adobe Flash application for this board. If you are on older release versions of Adobe Flash, and the dynamic real time chat module is not working for you, try upgrading to newer versions of Adobe Flash, until you are using a version of Adobe Flash that is compatable with FlashChat v4.7.12. In the future, board administration will upgrade FlashChat versions installed (prior anouncements will be posted for any such upgrade news) towards compatibility with current versions of Adobe Flash; if the dynamic real time chat module HAS BEEN WORKING for you, and becomes non-functional, the most probable cause is incompatibility between FlashChat and Adobe Flash - try upgrading your Adobe Flash installation to a newer version.
